The last major benefit is the cut in loading times. I’m sure not everyone will enjoy it as much as I did since it’s a bit hard on your fingers sometimes, but in my opinion, the haptic feedback really elevated my overall experience. If you make a mistake, the resistance will skyrocket, immediately telling you to change the way you drive. When it started to rain and my dirt bike had to push harder through the mud, I immediately felt the haptic feedback giving me way more resistance. When I was driving over easy terrain, everything went smoothly, without that much resistance. Thanks to the PlayStation 5, I was able to enjoy the game with the haptic feedback of the DualSense controller, which really elevated the realism.

When you solely look at the track and the bikes, this truly is a game of the new generation, if you look at the environment, this still feels like something that launched on the previous generation. It’s clear a lot of the developing time went into those details, it’s a bit of a shame the environment around the tracks still looks a bit bland.
Mxgp 2021 game review drivers#
Especially the drivers and their bikes look incredibly realistic, the same can be said for the weather conditions. Well, I was not disappointed at all! First things first, visually speaking, this is a huge step forwards. Since I tested this game on my PlayStation 5, I was a bit curious to see how well a motocross game performs on the new generation. If you want to become good at it, you better prepare for the grind. It’s a great way to showcase what it’s like to motocross in the real world and the developers clearly understand every aspect of the sport. Only by remaining calm and adapting your driving style to the weather, will you be able to overcome those challenges. The moment it starts to rain, those dry dirt tracks will immediately transform into dangerously slippery mud tracks. Just like in the real world, the weather also has a huge impact on the terrain. You won’t make it if you simply push your gas pedal. Adapting to the situation by altering your speed when needed is crucial to become really good at this game. If everyone is racing close together, it’s a lot harder to successfully pass one of the sharper curves on the track. If you time this correctly, you can stay ahead of the other crossers, which would make it a lot easier to make the right turn on the track. It all starts by timing your departure out of your starting-block. You really need to master the control and rules of the competition if you want to end up first. Like many other simulators, MXGP 2020 is far from easy. If you’re a fan of the franchise you know exactly what to expect from it while newcomers will need to adapt at the rather steep learning curve. It’s a fun little extra but nothing worth buying the game for. Don’t expect something mindblowing here as it’s all still pretty limited. More fun is the Playground mode where you can drive around freely or create your own track. All the big modes make a return, including the campaign mode, quick event, multiplayer, and time trial. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it! This is probably the idea behind MXGP 2020 as it feels extremely familiar to the previous entries.

Luckily for the fans, COVID-19 doesn’t exist in the otherwise extremely realistic simulator so this means you can go ahead full speed! Unlike the real situation, the riders weren’t forced to race on a limited amount of tracks, in MXGP 2020 you’ll have access to nineteen official tracks, including one in Lommel (Belgium), which is always fun to see.
Mxgp 2021 game review update#
That being said, the update comes with tons of fun!Īlthough the world is still in chaos and a lot of countries are still facing the challenges of lockdowns, you’re free to perform your favorite sport in MXGP 2020. To clear the air, yes this is the new version, it was simply delayed a bit to run on the current generation. Although most of the games always launch at the end of the year, this one launched early in 2021, making it a bit confusing why it’s stilled called MXGP 2020. Does this also mean the quality got better? Time to find out!įans of the MXGP franchise know they can expect a new updated version of their favorite game every year. Since this is the 2020 edition, the franchise also makes the jump to the new generation of hardware.
